The Istikhara Method Used by Istikhara.app

Istikhara.app uses a method based on randomly selecting a page of the Qur’an and considering the first line of the selected page.

This method is based on one of the methods of performing Qur’an-based Istikhara reported in recognized Shia Islamic sources. According to this method, after making the intention (niyyah) and reciting the supplication (du’a) for Istikhara, the Qur’an is opened and the first line of the page is considered as a basis for the Istikhara.

In the online version, this process is implemented digitally by randomly selecting one of the 604 pages of the Qur’an. The verse to which the first line of the selected page belongs is then used as the basis for presenting the Istikhara result.

Different methods of performing Istikhara with the Qur’an have been reported in Islamic sources. The method used by Istikhara.app should therefore not be understood as the only method of performing Istikhara in Islam.

Istikhara Is Not Fortune-Telling or a Way to Know the Unseen

Istikhara should not be used as a means of predicting the future, discovering the unseen (ghayb), or obtaining information about events or circumstances that are unknown to a person.

An Istikhara result does not reveal what will certainly happen in the future, nor does it guarantee that a particular event will occur or will not occur.

Istikhara is intended to seek guidance from Allah when a person remains uncertain about a matter after giving it proper thought and consideration. It should not be treated as a method of fortune-telling, divination, or supernatural prediction.

Questions about unknown future events, such as whether a particular person will marry you, whether you will achieve a specific future outcome, or what will happen to you at a particular time, should not be treated as the proper purpose of Istikhara.

Istikhara Does Not Replace Reason and Consultation

Istikhara is not a substitute for careful consideration, research, examination of the circumstances, and consultation with knowledgeable and trustworthy people.

This is particularly important when making significant decisions concerning marriage, choosing a career or occupation, business transactions, financial matters, or other major life decisions.

You should first consider the relevant circumstances, gather the necessary information, and seek appropriate advice. Istikhara may be considered alongside these efforts, rather than as a replacement for them.
